About Sandstone

Overview

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. The sediment particles are clasts, or pieces, of minerals and fragments of rock. It is composed mostly of sand particles, which are of medium size. It is composed of sheets of sand, mineral particles, and binding matrix deposited one atop in water environments and desert formations.

Characteristics of Sandstone

As a landscaping and building stone, sandstone is full of character, with warm colors. It can also be quite durable. It is a porous stone, and water will penetrate it easily. It is also relatively soft, making it easy to carve. The stone has a very classic look that would complement a wide range of other materials.

Care + Maintenance

Sandstone is a soft rock. Vacuuming, sweeping and wiping limestone will help remove daily debris. Use a microfibre towel to avoid surface scratching. A bucket of warm water and dish detergent may further help remove dirt from a limestone tile or flooring. However, flooring and walls must be washed again to remove all traces of soap. Do not use acidic cleaners. It will scratch and damage the finish applied to this natural stone.
